A Great Day ~ in San Clemente

It's hard not to have a great day when wearing hand knit socks that give your feet unparalleled warmth, comfort and pizazz!  But it never hurts to be told to have a great day either.

San Clemente is a sleepy little surf town just North of San Diego and is our home away from home.  One thing I love about being in San Clemente is that everywhere you go they tell you "have a great day."  From the grocery store clerk to the T-shirt shop you hear this familiar refrain.  It makes me smile and sums up the San Clemente experience in four little words.

It's awfully hard to model socks so just pretend I'm smiling in this photo.  I really am having a great day in San Clemente.

Particulars:  Orzival Socks by Stefanina March (who blogs as Stephanie's Dream); 1 skein Pigeon Roof Studios fingering yarn, spring green colorway, US 1 needles.  This is a great pattern and I really enjoying knitting these socks.  After the last pattern repeat I only knit 4 rounds of plain stockinette stitch (rather than the recommended 6 rounds) as I have small feet (size 7 US).  Raveled here.

These last pictures are taken at the San Clemente Farmer's Market which is held every Sunday morning on Avenida Del Mar.  The city is know for its Spanish architecture and, of course, the great surfing. Steve and I are both wearing hoodies that are sold all over town.  They are incredibly comfortable and I don't know why we don't wear them in Topanga. You don't often see Steve on the blog, and you only see his profile here, but he's about to have a post as I'm finishing up something for him.  Just so you know, I did not rob the cradle so any comments of that sort will not be appreciated.

The MisAdventures of Simcha

We are still taking separate vacations.  But should my feelings be hurt?  After returning from his stay at the Topanga Pet Resort, I get the strong impression that Simcha would rather still be playing with his friends.  I do my best to keep him entertained at home including daily long walks, tossing the ball, training sessions, keeping him supplied with Bully sticks to chew on, an afternoon tea break (that I know he enjoys) and personal grooming.  But there are a lot of hours in the day.  I'm thinking it's time he got a job.

Until next time, be well and love well and think about what is it that you love about your community and, wherever you are, have a great day!  Signing off from San Clemente.

Love the socks! Such a perfect spring green.

My husband went to a year of high school in San Clemente and loved it there. He learned to surf and pretty much played at the beach every chance he got. How nice that you guys have a home away from home there ;).

Beautiful socks!
Simcha Boss would looove to run the snot out of you if you are ever this way. They would definitely be partners in crime. Its soo good that he loves to go on his Holiday's. Its not an option for us here, no were nice enough and Boss and Moll get to have sleep overs with Granda which in Boss's opinion is A1.

Gorgeous socks Claudia, love the color! You wear them well! Hoodies are my favorite, I think I'd like San Clemente. Had to laugh about Simcha getting a job....he already has one....training his people!

Great socks! Simcha, Gretchen feels your pain. Ironically, she was a low-energy pup, but as she hits full adulthood, she's become VERY high energy. Luckily, she's old enough now to entertain herself and she remains a GOOD GIRL.

Cute post! I love how your vacation spots are so laid back and "island timey." The socks are just impossibly cute. Can't wait to see Steve's post. The Topanga Pet Resort looks like a swell vacation spot, too!

Those are beautiful! Lovely shade of green. Perhaps Simcha II, to keep him company? Just kidding!

I saw these on Ravelry (yours, not the pattern) and I think they look beautiful! I went ahead and queued the pattern. I really like the yarn color too.

Gorgeous knitting, as always - the yarn color is beautiful, too.
I am going to be in southern California for vacation in July - flying into San Diego and heading up to Huntington Beach. Really excited for the trip - maybe I should purchase a hoodie...

Those are adorable socks. I love them. Might have to grab the pattern.

And I'm guessing Steve just takes as good of care of himself as you do. No craddle robbing comments.

What kind of employment is Simcha looking for? g

If your socks disappear one day, I swear I'm innocent.

You know knit bloggers have the best dogs, one day we should have a big knit blogger dog party.

Hi, Claudia! Lovely to be back and catching up with you here after our travels. I love the sound of San Clemente! That market...*swoon*... While we were home in the US, I was loving all the friendliness-folks saying "have a good day/evening," etc. We don't get that much here--reserved are the Norwegians...LOL! LOVE the socks--very pretty pattern. That moss green color makes me think of dense woodlands. Have you cut your hair? The shorter length is great for summer. How do you keep so slim?! I bought some yarn while back home for a gift, and can't wait to get sticks clicking again. But I think we'll need the weekend to get over the jet lag and get back on track first. ;o) Happy Days ((HUGS))

So wonderful you have San Celemente - sounds like it restores the soul. Bliss.
Too bad you live so far away, I'd keep you and Simcha out of trouble and give you jobs you both enjoy. lol
Hugs and Have a great day!!

Love the socks! They look terrific! Do either of you rollerblade? I've been trying that to release some of milie's energy.

Our cats need work, too.

I was born in the bay area and grew up wearing hoodies (then called sweat shirts) and flip flops (also, adults wore moo moos - does anyone wear those anymore?).

I adore everything about living in Maine, but thinking about California always stirs something deep in my soul. Love your blog as always.

Hey another california knitter..hoorayyyy!!!

I really like your socks by the way. I am currently at the moment working on a pair. These are going to be my first. They probably won't be as intricate as yours, but I'm going to give it the old college try.

And also, I can't remember if I ever said this before, but I really like your tea cozies.

Nice socks. I'm afraid I don't knit socks, probably because I don't like to wear them.

I bet Simcha would have preferred going along with you to San Clemente. I bet he missed his people much more than he let on!

I just found your blog and love your projects! I live in Dana Point and just love S. OC. The people here are SO friendly. We have lived all over California and all over the country and by far this is the friendliest place we have ever lived. I love to knit, crochet, embroider and sew so I wish there was more of that here (San Francisco has tons), but hopefully it will grow.
