Ode to Fall

Fall begins and I enjoy the cooler days

I love the swirling leaves that
decorate the sky

Inside I sip apple cider and cheer on the Fighting
Irish of Notre Dame

A pumpkin sits on my doorstep I wonder what
ghosts and goblins it will attract

A harvest feast of bounty
Thanksgiving is a time to reflect

Why must the magic of Fall ever pass
away

By Mr Puffy

I wish you could have seen my mother's face when I brought home these skeins of yarn. I was so excited at having found yarn positively ablaze with Fall color - how lucky was I! It was with barely repressed glee that I spilled the yarn out onto the dinning room table. I waited for the exclamations of oohs and awes. They were not forthcoming. Perhaps she thought the yarn was too bright?

I have found it somewhat difficult to wear these socks. They really don't match anything in my wardrobe. This is a good point to keep in mind when selecting yarns. Those skeins that are beautiful twinkling on the shelves aren't always the easiest to wear. Kinda like these socks.

But they look smashing to my eye and are wonderful as house socks! I wear them plopped on the couch with great enjoyment.

Specs: I do not recall which basic sock pattern I used. But if I was going to knit a pair of basic socks I would turn to the iconic Stephanie Pearl-McPhee aka: Yarn Harlot and her free basic sock pattern (this pattern has gotten rave reviews on Ravelry); 2 Skeins Koigu hand painted merino wool; US 1 needles.

And the Award goes to.....

An award for Mr Puffy's Knitting Blog? Really? Look what Hilary at The Yarniad gave Puff and me! It's a Blue Ribbon Award! Thank you very much Hilary :))))

The rules of the award are:

1) Post the award on your blog;
2) Add a link to the person who gave you the award;
3) Nominate at least 4 other bloggers and add their links; and
4) Leave a comment at the recipients’ blogs so they can pass it on.

My nominees are, in no particular order...

Monika at Smoking Hot Needles

Amanda at Fancie Pants

Elin at Byelin

Jillian at Snitty

and

Anna at Flying Needles

As is my practice, I like to mix up the bloggers I name for these awards so that readers have a chance to meet a variety of the talented knitters in blogland. In practice I actually only read relatively few blogs on a regular basis so please know that if I'm reading your blog - it's because I love it!

  2. We all agree with Mr. Puffy. Fall is definitely the best time of year and wish it could stay forever.

I don't think the socks are too bright. They're very cheerful. What I got a kick out of was the photo of them with the black shoes and bare legs. Kind of reminded me of the geezer look, the ol' guys with their shorts, dark socks and shoes. SOOO not the typical look of Mr. Puffy's stylish mum.

    Congrats on the award.

  3. Ah, Koigu, what else. I tried to guess what sock yarn it is, until you meantioned it. I have sock yarn like that in my stash too. Beautiful to look at, and I have no idea how I would wear socks made from it, other than at home, on the couch. Thanks for the award! :o)
Oh, and I like your Fall poem. Fall is my fav time of year, followed by winter and spring.

  4. Congrats to you and thank you again!

Fall is my favorite time of year as well. I love that winter in SoCal is kind of one extended Indian Summer. I could do without the summers altogether :)

And gorgeous socks! I end up wearing most of my socks around the house, as I rarely wear shoes that require socks. And then they don't have to match anyway!

  5. An Ode to Fall is so appropriate - I love this time of year, too.
Love the socks. Maybe one day in my life I knit a pair.

    Thanks for the award, again!!

  8. One of the best poems about fall -ever!

I love the socks. I have gotten to the point where I don't worry a lot about whether my socks "go" with anything else. They are my one rebellion against matching ...

Congrats on the award - now I have to go check those blogs.

  11. The socks are lovely, but I have the same problem. I fall in love with sock yarns that don't match the rest of my wardrobe... but who wants blue, black and brown socks??

  12. We're still waiting for cooler days here, although our mornings are becoming much nicer, I can feel the crispness in the air.
I love the color of your socks, and they look so warm and toasty!

  13. Mr. Puffy is so charming! Jake agrees with Mr. Puffy's lavish praise for Fall. I must admit that I prefer the Spring.

    I love the socks!

My mouth hangs out of my head when I see bright, pretty colors too. They are not for everyday wear, but they make me smile everytime I find them in my closet.

  14. Well isn't Mr. Puffy talented, he can write poetry:-). Very nice ode to fall. I have to admit that fall is not my favorite time, but it's here so I might as well try to enjoy it.

I love your socks and I think they would be perfect with jeans and clogs. Since that is what I wear most often, I never really think about how bright my socks are. Right now, I'm thinking I need to knit myself a few more pair. It's getting cold early this year, so socks season will be extra long.

Congrats on your blog award. You & Mr. Puffy deserve it. You have a great writing style and take lovely photos. If there was any doubt that Mr. P. deserved an increase in his allowance, this award should seal the deal!
